MORE than 300 participants have already registered for the Guta RaJehovah Half Maathon as the build-up to the inaugural edition of the event gathers momentum.
Registration will end on Monday.
The half marathon, which is set for next Saturday, is part of the 70th Anniversary of the Guta RaJehovah Church where more than 5 000 members from different countries will throng their church’s Gombakomba Shrine in Mutare.
Participants as well as church members will be coming from different countries that include South Africa, Mozambique, Botswana, Zambia, United Kingdom, United States of America and Zimbabwe, giving the event a strong national and international appeal.
The race will have 5km Fun Run, 10km Run and 21km Half Marathon, at a registration fee of US$15 per participant.

Beyond the sporting spectacle, the marathon is a charitable initiative aimed at mobilising support for vulnerable and orphaned children within the GRJ community, including assistance with school fees and other educational requirements.
Proceeds will also go towards the church’s initiative to establish Guiding Star Academy, a GRJ-affiliated school intended to expand access to quality education for children in the area.
One of the organising partners, Noah Karisawu Chingore, said: “The event is already receiving encouraging support from businesses owned by members of the GRJ Church, demonstrating the strong commitment to the cause. We already have more than 300 athletes registered.
“The marathon forms part of a broader programme the 70th Anniversary of the church, celebrating seven decades of unwavering faith, service, growth and remarkable achievements.
“The Anniversary celebrations will reflect on the church’s contribution to the Mutare community and showcase ongoing development projects, while looking ahead to new initiatives, marking an important milestone in the vision of GRJ.
“GRJ is inviting individuals, companies, organisations, schools, colleges, universities and the general public to take part in the event as runners, sponsors or partners.
“Corporate entities wishing to support the marathon may do so through cash or in-kind contributions, with sponsorship packages available across various levels. Members of the public interested in registering, sponsoring or obtaining further information can contact Manicaland Athletics Board or GRJ Church.”
